Hirsch's h-index: A stochastic model

چکیده

We propose a simple stochastic model for an author’s production/citation process in order to investigate the recently proposed hindex for measuring an author’s research output and its impact. The parametric model distinguishes between an author’s publication process and the subsequent citation processes of the published papers. This allows us to investigate different scenarios such as varying the production/publication rates and citation rates as well as the researcher’s career length. We are able to draw tentative results regarding the dependence of Hirsch’s h-index on each of these fundamental parameters. We conjecture that the h-index is, according to this model, (approximately) linear in career length, log publication rate and log citation rate, at least for moderate citation rates. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. A Google Scholar h-index for journals: An alternative metric to measure journal impact in economics and business

We propose a new data source (Google Scholar) and metric (Hirsch's h-index) to assess journal impact in the field of Economics & Business. A systematic comparison between the Google Scholar h-index and the ISI Journal Impact Factor for a sample of 838 journals in Economics & Business shows that the former provides a more accurate and comprehensive measure of journal impact.

The research impact of school psychology faculty.

Hirsch's (2005) h index has become one of the most popular indicators of research productivity for higher education faculty. However, the h index varies across academic disciplines so empirically established norms for each discipline are necessary. To that end, the current study collected h index values from Scopus and Google Scholar databases for 401 tenure-track faculty members from 109 schoo...

Performance evaluation of Iran universities with Stochastic Data Envelopment Analysis (SDEA)

Performance evaluation of universities is an important issue between researchers. Classic data envelopment analysis (DEA) models with deterministic data have been used by many authors to measure efficiency of universities in different countries. However, DEA with stochastic data are, rarely used to measure efficiency of universities. In this paper, input oriented model in stochastic data env...

Statistical Hypothesis Test for the Difference between Hirsch Indices of Two Pareto-Distributed Random Samples

In this paper we discuss the construction of a new parametric statistical hypothesis test for the equality of probability distributions. The test bases on the di erence between Hirsch's h-indices of two equal-length i.i.d. random samples. For the sake of illustration, we analyze its power in case of Pareto-distributed input data. It turns out that the test is very conservative and has wide acce...

A Stochastic Operational Planning Model for Smart Power Systems

Smart Grids are result of utilizing novel technologies such as distributed energy resources, and communication technologies in power system to compensate some of its defects. Various power resources provide some benefits for operation domain however, power system operator should use a powerful methodology to manage them. Renewable resources and load add uncertainty to the problem. So, independe...
